The Big My Scene Doll Makeover!

 At the urging of a friend on Instagram (Dollboy92) I decided to dig out my daughters' old My Scene dolls. I am sure many of you remember them. They were brought into the Mattel line up to compete with the Bratz dolls in 2002 and were discontinued in 2014. I will be honest, and I don't want to irritate any Bratz fans, but I did steer my daughters away from Bratz in favor of the the My Scene dolls. So going through my doll stash, I discovered that we had 21 of the My Scene gal dolls in a box. We do have some of the boys as well, but their bodies were commandeered for use on some of our old Ken dolls, so they are not a part of the resurrection post.

I will tell you that these dolls were favorites of both of my daughters, and they were very well "played" with! Their hair was quite a tangled mess, so it has been quite a challenge to get these girls looking good! I did their makeovers in "waves", but for purposes of this blog, I will share photos of all 21 dolls in this post. Note that, as is normal for me, all dolls have been rebodied to articulated bodies. 

So here is wave 1

From L to R: Nolee on a Natalya WWE Superstar body, Madison with a toothy smile is on a Blue Top MTM yoga body (2nd release), Madison with a closed mouth in on a MTM yoga body Wave 2 Hispanic with hair in a bun, and Barbie is on a Katniss Hunger Games 2 body.

The 2nd wave of makeovers:

Top L - Madison w lighter skintone and rebodied on the MTM Dancer! Her hair was originally quite curly, but was in quite a mess. I managed to comb in out, washed and conditioned the hair and straightened it using a flat iron and then trimmed it to this shorter bob. Top R - Delancey on MTM Curvy Yoga, Bottom L - Madison with lighter skintone rebodied on MTM Baseball Barbie and finally, My Scene Special Edition Lindsay Lohan on MTM BMR "Green Beret".

Wave 3 of the makeovers:

This group consists of 4 Nolee dolls. It was quite challenging as I had to really dig to find replacement bodies for each of these girls. I hope you will think that I made the right choices! So here we go, Left to right: Nolee on a Purple Top MTM body, Nolee on a BMR green hat MTM body, Nolee on a pale 11 jointed playline body and Nolee on a Dollmore 1:6 scale ball-jointed body. This last one was the most difficult. I was running low on Pale skin tone bodies when I remember I had purchased the Dollmore bodies. Still need to find her some shoes, but I like how she looks on this body. Her hair was in such bad condition, that I thought I might have to reroot her, but after cutting it to shoulder length and giving her a boil wash, I was able to come up with the bob style for her. I like it for now at least! What do you think?

Wave 4:

This time around, we have 4 Chelsea dolls. From L to R, Chelsea on a play line Barbie with 11 points of articulation, Chelsea on a BMR Tall Barbie - wave 1, Chelsea on Pink Top MTM yoga body and Chelsea on a Dollmore 1:6 scale body with natural skintone.

After some consideration I decided to swap the Dollmore Body for a Liv body. What do you think?

The 5th and final wave!

This group has 5 dolls in it to finish the 21 dolls I have for makeovers! This time around, there are 4 Barbie/Kennedy dolls and one Madison. From L to R Back Row, Barbie/Kennedy on a play line Barbie with 11 points of articulation, Barbie/Kennedy on a WWE body, Barbie/Kennedy on a MTM Baseball player body and Barbie/Kennedy on a MTM BMR wave 1 green beret body. Front row seated is a Madison on a MTM Wave 1 second release Blue Top Yoga Theresa body. These have all been a challenge to find the right body for, to get there hair manageable and to get them dressed in cute outfits. Knowing that my daughters played and played with these dolls, you can probably only imagine what some of the hair was like especially for those dolls that had curls. I hope you have enjoyed them!

Barbie Skipper Babysitter Inc.

As part of my holiday shopping spree, I managed to get most of the Barbie Skipper Babysitter Inc. teen dolls and some of the babies too. I was excited to see that Skipper got some friends! As will the other playline dolls, these dolls come without joint articulation. 😢 However, other than that, I really like this line of dolls. Of course, I immediately found articulated bodies to put them on and am very happy with the results! Hanaly Corners will be blessed with a bevy of new teens!

Here is a photo with the group of dolls that I purchased already on their new bodies. Later, I will show some comparison shots against the original bodies.

From left to right: AA Babysitter on an AA Liv body; Blonde Babysitter on a 24cm Obitsu body; Hispanic Babysitter on a tan Momoko body, Caucasian Babysitter on a M Pure Neemo Body with Small Chest in Natural color; Boy Babysitter on an Alistair Ever After High body. All dolls have been redressed to some degree. Actually, only the Blonde Babysitter has her original dress on with MTM yoga pants.

As you can see, this gives the dolls varying heights -- which is the way it is in real life! I did a comparison of each of these bodies to it's original sized body. For the girl dolls, it is Skipper sized. I put an old Skipper head on one of the bodies. Here goes!

Here is the Hispanic Babysitter on the tan Momoko as compared to the original Skipper. As you can see, the Momoko body is only slightly taller than the Skipper body, so this is a very good body to use. She can wear Skipper's clothes and Skipper's boots.

Here is the Caucasian Babysitter on the M Pure Neemo body as compared to the original Skipper body. The Body is in the Natural Skin tone and is a pretty good match for this head. I really like this body! While she is a little shorter than she was on her original body, I still think this is a good choice for her and is age appropriate. She cannot wear the Skipper boots, is wearing shoes from Azone for Momoko and Ruruko.

Here is the Blonde Babysitter on the 24 CM Obitsu Body as compared to the Skipper on the original body. I really like this body! The skintone is Natural, but it is a little paler than the Pure Neemo natural. It is a near perfect match for the lighter skin tone of this girl! She is slightly shorter than the Pure Neemo body. Again, I think this body is totally age appropriate and keeps her in the same age range as she was originally supposed to be in.

Here is the AA Babysitter on an AA Liv body as compared to original Skipper. She is taller and a bit more mature looking, but this is OK. She will be a little older than the others, but will fit in with other dolls I have on Liv bodies in Hanaly Corners. She is wearing some shoes I found at the 2016 IT convention which were sold to fit Momoko, Poppy Parker and Ruruko.

I have a second AA Babysitter because I found the set with the baby included later. I changed her hair style a bit and put her on a Project MC2 Bryden Body. Because she had big high-heeled feet, she stands taller. I plan on cutting off those feet and giving her some jointed Barbie feet. This will bring her height down to be closer to Skipper's size and she will then be able to wear Skipper's boots. She can wear Skipper's clothes. She will be the taller AA Babysitter's younger sister.

Here is the Boy Babysitter on the Alistair Everafter High body as compared to Skipper. He cannot wear his original clothing, so he is wearing a Ken Fashionista outfit. He is the only one who has a name so far! His name is Sage. He is a handsome young man, don't you think?

I thought you might like to see his original body in comparison to the Slim Ken Fashionista body which is on the right. As you can see, these bodies are very similar in build with the Ken body being a bit taller and having a thicker neck. The original body can fit in the Slim Ken clothes.

Here you can see all three bodies together. I probably should have disrobed the Alistair body so you could have seen the body build comparison, but I didn't do that!

Here his is will the girls! He goes well with all of them! We need more young males!

Indigo Obsession - A Grail Doll Purchased!

"Indigo Obsession Barbie" by designer Byron Lars has long been on my grail list. However, it was beginning to seem that I would not be able to get her at a price I was willing to pay, and I had kind of given up on getting her. Released in 2000, here is her stock photo below:

While browsing through photos on Flickr, I ran across a series of photos of the various Byron Lars dolls that Mattel had produced. Among these, I saw a beautiful photo of my coveted Indigo Obsession, which once again made me go on the hunt for her. Low and behold, I was able to find not one, but two of these beauties within my price point, and as a matter of fact, she was only a few dollars more than her original price on Barbie Collector! I decided that I probably would not see her at this price again anytime in the near future, so I made the plunge and purchased her.

She arrive, NRFB a few days ago.

Still in her box, she is every bit as stunning as I imagined she would be!

I am not one to leave my dolls in the box, though. She was very quickly released!

When Mattel released the darker skintone AA doll "Barbie Girls of Music Playset" I quickly ordered more than one of them from Amazon as I knew this would be a skintone that I would definitely need for body swapping!

While she is not a MTM body (which would have been nice, Mattel!), she does have approximately the same articulation of some of the earlier Fashionista releases. Her joints are nice and sturdy and it doesn't bother me that she doesn't have the jointed ankles. 

I thought that this skintone was a very good match for my Indigo Obsession, so I promptly rebodied her!

I am so very happy with this new lady! She will cetainly be turning some head in Hanaly Corners!

Adventures in Body Modifications

Now that my Giveaways are over (at least for the time being. I will be doing a Birthday Giveaway in July), I thought it was time to do something else! My next adventure was to attempt to add articulation to dolls that only had partial articulation. I get a little frustrated when Mattel puts out a doll with articulated legs and stiff arms or visa versa. I have already done quite a bit of leg swapping, so arm swapping seemed to be the next logical step! After seeing a post on Flickr from John Pickles where he did an arm swap, I decided to take the jump and try this myself. 

My first victim -- umm candidate -- was a Sledding Fun Skipper body. She has articulated knees and stiff arms. Now if I had any more of the Hawaiian Skipper bodies, I would have done a leg transplant as those are much easier. However, I did have a donor Barbie body (she had already lost her head!) that had articulated arms, stiff legs and the dreadfully distorted torso. She was a good skintone match for this Skipper, so this became my donor!

Here is the body with the new arms. I was worried at first that the new arms would be too long, but I think they look great!

 I had this vintage Skipper that I loved, but her original body was badly chewed up and I gave her this body. Love how she turned out!

That turned out so well, I selected my next candidates for change. 

I had gotten the Barbie® Beauty Salon & Doll - Brunette play set a while ago. I also had the Fashionista 54-Tutu Cool - Petite and had put her on a MTM body, but I thought I would see if I could use an Azone Pure Neemo Body size Medium for a Petite doll. I got one with large breasts which gives the doll a more mature look.

Dressed!

I had another Azone Pure Neemo body in Medium with small breasts and with the pale skintone. I decided to use one of the many MTM Lea heads that I had in my spare parts box since she had donated so many bodies to the cause! She got a new haircut and I wiped her lips. I have not been brave enough to attempt any face painting, so they are staying pale for now.

I never have enough little guys around! For this little guy, I took an AA Lori doll, removed some of the hair off the bottom half of the head, set really tight curls to the remaining hair and flocked the bottom part of the hair. 

I do think he is an adorable little boy! 

I had this old vintage Ken who had seen better days. His body was in bad shape and his flocked hair was partially rubbed off. I had popped is head onto a Volks 1:6 male body (they don't make those anymore 😒😢) but it was not a good skin tone match. He got my last ATM Cheerleader Ken body and I reflocked his hair.

He is now quite handsome and hunky!!!💪😀

I am sure you have heard me rant a lot about the lack of articulation for the Curvy bodies. I mean, I love the Curvy bodies, but I want them to be articulated! While I am waiting for Mattel to listen, I did some limb swapping of my own to help me out. Popstar and Everyday Chic agreed to go under the knife (after a little arm twisting 😊💪). Sweetheart stripes came along to show a comparison of the original Curvy body and to lend her support.


Popstar got a leg transplant. Her donor was the "Hidden Sword Wonder Woman" doll who got a MTM body. Everyday Chic Got legs from "DC Comics Wonder Woman Queen Hippolyta & Horse" who got a MTM body almost immediately on her arrival. I tried to also transplant the arms, but the shoulder balls were too big. She ended up getting arms from an old body with the stiff legs and distorted torso I had laying around. Over all, I think everybody is happy!

 Whew, these were definitely not easy! There is some evidence of a little warpage and the arms are not a great fit for Everyday Chic, but I still like the end result. My next attempt may go even better!
