To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before!

Yes, I finally got my Star Trek trio! They were back ordered twice even though I ordered them on the day they came out. This always seems to be the case with The Barbie Collection.com now. Anyway, they came on Saturday. So here is a picture of them all:

Commander Spock, Lieutenant Uhura, Captain James T Kirk
Their uniforms are excellent replicas of what they wore in the original series. They all carry Communicators. Kirk has a Phaser and Uhura has a Tricorder. All of these items are true to form from the original series.

Commander Spock is giving the Vulcan salute for "Live Long and Prosper".
Here are some close up photos of each of the characters:
The sculpt of Commander Spock has done justice to the character. From his pointed ears to the slanted brows, I think Leonard Nimoy would be pleased is he were still alive.

Lieutenant Uhura is a very good likeness of the character from the original series. The accuracy is spot on right down to the hair and even the earrings.  Mattel did Nichelle Nichols proud!

Captain Kirk? I would have to squint a lot to recognize this sculpt as Jame T. Kirk. Mattel did not do such a good job in replicating Bill Shatner's rugged good looks in his hay day of playing the daring Kirk. I was a little disappointed.

You may be asking, what bodies did they give them! I will warn you that the next couple of photos are of naked dolls, so if this offends you, stop now and don't look any further!

Spock and Kirk have the same body, so I am only showing Kirk here. As you can see, he has the Harley Ken body. Uhura on the other hand, has a similar body to Wonder Woman.
Her feet are high heeled feet with no ankle articulation

Her thighs are not articulated. Her knees are Made to Move.

She has Made to Move arms and Fashionista hands. She does not have a moveable torso.

All in all, I am pretty happy with these characters. They are pretty good representations of the Star Trek original characters. I am happy I ordered them!

Live long and prosper!

  1. That doesn't look like William Shatner at all to me. They did so well with the other two that his is quite surprising.

  2. Uhura's a total win here: looks like her without that weird trying-too-hard Uncanny Valley thing that used to happen with portrait faces, and she can move!

With Kirk, they avoided the uncanny valley at the expense of missing the mark. The face-up is a good representation of something, but not Shatner.

    1. Totally agree! Too bad for Will Shatner. I wonder what he thinks about this?

  3. I hadn't realized that these dolls had such articulated bodies - good to know!

While it's true that the Kirk doll seems to be missing that essence of the character, the other two are so good that I'm thinking it's too bad they didn't put out dolls of the full original crew!

  4. I only ordered Uhura. Order tracking puts her here on or before Wednesday. I hope I can do something with her hair. Otherwise, I might have to send her away for a reroot. The likenesses are quite good... except for Captain Kirk, of course. Thanks for the preview of what to expect.

    1. Me too on the hair! She does have a sponge material for the puff, so hopefully it won't be too bad to fix. Heck, I managed to convert the Lounge Kitty dolls to be without ears and look pretty good. How hard can Ohura's hair be??

  5. I agree with everyone here. Spock & Uhura's faces are a good likeness. But I wouldn't have even known that was Captain Kirk if pictured alone.

  7. I like them, specially Uhura, and they are very articulated. Too bad the boys have molded hair!

    1. I don't mind the molded hair on Spock since his hair in the show is so sleek, but Kirk definitely would have been better with rooted hair. They missed the mark on him all around.

  8. Gratuluję zakupu nowych lalek! Są fantastyczni i artykułowani! Ręce i nogi mają podobne do MTM, lecz torsy nie są przegubowe i stopy również!
    Bardzo mi siÄ™ podobajÄ…!
    Pozdrawiam serdecznie!

  9. Congratulations, Phyllis! I agree, Kirk doesn't look like Kirk, but they hit Uhura on the head and Spock's not bad either.

I want Uhura. I'm okay with the fact that she's not as articulated as the MTMs.

  10. Oh Uhura is gorgeous and hopefully she wants to make Dotsville her new home. I like Mr. Spock too. Captain Kirk is not Shatner but that's ok, he still a handsome fella.

  11. Uhura looks really great. I dont like that the guys have molded hair, and I think its a bit unfair.

  12. Thanks for the close ups. I'm so loving the Uhura doll. Since she's articulated, I may have to add her. So funny, I think it was earlier today or yesterday that I said I wouldn't be adding her. How quickly we can change our minds. We shall see. Even though Kirk isn't Kirk, it's nice to see a different face sculpt with articulation. I would have to repaint his eyes, though. But, what am I saying....I'm NOT buying him. Congrats on your dollies.

  13. Lieutenant Uhura is awesome and I choose her above Spock for better articulation:) Nevertheless Spock is just great too. As to Captain Kirk...hmmmm.... He reminds me more of Jerome Morrow from Gattaca. Congrats on this trio!:)

  14. Congratulations, Phyllis! I like how they are ALL articulated. Thanks for all the photos. I'd like to get Uhura at least. We'll see. We'll see.

  16. I just got mine! I looked them over on line and some dolls have issues with the eye paint! The eye are the same. I looked at a few with the problem. Mattel's quality control isn't what is used to be. Yours look great! I haven't taken her out of the box yet but I have been review others posts to get idea. I think my girl needs some rocking clothes.

    1. I took the foam bump out of her hair and gave her a boil wash and restyled her hair. I also put her in civilian clothes and she definitely looks much better!
